Westmark School (Encino)
Westmark School is a private school in Encino, California, teaching 3rd through 12th grade. The school serves children with attention-deficit disorder, dyslexia and order learning disorders.
The school is the first in the Los Angeles area to provide iPads to all students. School administrators and teachers consider the high costs worth it for what it adds to the education program.〔 The school has also been praised for sparking enthusiasm in students. It has also been praised for its school librarians in getting students to take interest in reading and improve their reading levels.
In 2012, The Daily Caller published a 2004 video of Jamie Montgomery, Westmark's school board chairman, performing a racist skit. The video was of a fundraising event for St. Matthew's Parish, a private school in Pacific Palisades. Westmark took no action against Montgomery for the incident. Lauren Vaughn, a teacher at the school, gave an interview with KTLA-TV, saying the video was an embarrassment to the school and that Montgomery should have faced discipline for his 2004 behavior. Vaughn states that she was fired for the interview, and sued Montgomery and the school for wrongful termination.
